Born and raised in Upstate NY, Tebby George attended Syracuse University School of Art. She moved to CA and continued her studies at U. C. Berkeley and at San Francisco City College, Fort Mason Campus, where she is currently teaching Life Sculpture, Moldmaking and Casting.

As a working sculptor for over 25 years, she has shown in several California galleries and exhibitions, most recently The Lincoln Arts & Cultural Foundation, The Artery in Davis, The Fetterly Gallery in Vallejo, the Bradford Gallery in San Francisco, and the Marin County Civic Center Gallery. Her pieces are included in collections throughout the US, Europe, and South America. She is currently showing with Artisans Gallery in San Rafael, CA.

Tebby's work, mostly figurative, is done primarily in clay. She builds hollow, often in sections, and finishes her pieces with stains, oxides, slips and glazes. Her smaller pieces are often raku fired or pit fired. She works also with wax, plaster, cast paper, forton, and cold-cast metals. Her figures and portraits are both small and life-size and she sculpts in relief as well as in the round.

Artist's statement:   The human form has been for me an unending source of strength, beauty, and inspiration. My work is a continuing challenge to capture and express in clay the spirit of each individual subject. I have great respect for the materials that are used in this endeavor, realizing that these materials have in their own nature a willingness to work with the sculptor in the expression of her vision.
